Cells at Work
I watched the episodes on Cedar Pine Allergies and Blood Circulation, which center around the characters (different cells within the body) dealing with an hyper-reaction to cedar pollen and completing a full circulation of the body, respectively. Although the show is informative in nature, often giving PSA-esq explanations about the science it is referencing in the middle of fight scenes, it still manages to be hilarious and a joy to watch.
It its likely my 4th or 5th rewatch of the show, yet I still seem to learn something new every time. Like how Mast cells (the ones that produce histamine) do so in the presence of high IgE (Immunoglobin E) specifically, which is how allergic reactions occur.
Additionally, I did not realize that neutrophils (a type of white blood cell) could kill tumor cells until the main neutrophil of the show did so during one episode and the cytotoxic T-cell character made a comment on the act. Usually, this job is left for the lymphocytes responsible for Cell-mediated immunity (T-cells and NK-cells) as they are much larger and better equipped to deal with infected or malfunctioning self cells.
There were many words and phrases that I recognized, although this show was harder to comprehend in some levels due to its use of scientific jargon. However, one aspect I recognized was the play on words with つぎ(Next) vs すぎ(Cedar). Or perhaps it was just my untrained ear that could not tell the difference, but it seemed like the word つぎ was being used more than normal.
Additionally, due to its consistent use throughout the episodes, I picked up on the word さいぼう as the word for "Cell". From this, I was able to discern the names of multiple cells
きおくさいぼう=Memory (B-)Cell
B-さいぼう= B-Cell
しんけいさいぼう= Nerve Cell
かんさいぼう= Liver cell (hepatocyte)
I also recognized the use of the kanji 臓(ぞう)as the a marker for "organ," like in the words
しんぞう= Heart
かんぞう= Liver
じんぞう= Kidney

たくさん日本語がわかるようになって、すごいですね。
